A s we were wandering around Alaçatı, this lovely little hotel drew our attention. The 150 year-old building is located in the centre of town, opposite the Pazayeri mosque (otherwise known as Mary’s Church).

Run by a cheerful former banker who named it after her daughter, the hotel smells of lavender from top to bottom. The rooms are mostly white, with little to distract the eye. Everything is spic and span.

Flowers and paintings hang on the walls. We didn’t get a chance to try their breakfast, but it is said to be particularly rich and consists of fresh eggs, cheeses, homemade jams and fresh produce from the market. At teatime, guests are offered homemade lemonade, lemon cake and local poğaca. Who would object to such a gracious addition to the basic room and breakfast deal?
