hizzing through Yanıklar on the highway that links Dalaman with Fethiye it would be easy to think there was no village here at all when in fact it is a dispersed settlement with some parts down by the beach and others inland along the beautiful Yeşil Vadi (Green Valley).
In this out-of-the-way place the Karabacak family has chosen to establish their twin-building hotel near the beach where modestly decorated rooms with terracotta-tiled floors and pretty bedcovers defy the rusticity of the ducks and chickens bustling about in the garden.
Yanıklar beach where Yonca Lodge is located, is a mixture of grey sand and shingle but the view over the outlying islands is breathtaking and the lure of the hammocks slung in the trees almost irresistible. This is a very laidback place which we thought might benefit from a slightly firmer hand on the tiller.
