A
charming, modest hotel in a converted olive press. The low stone building stands in a colourful garden on the edge of the Aegean Sea, in an undeveloped little plain 5 miles east of Assos. It is surrounded by a few vegetable farms, some olive groves and not much else. The garden restaurant is set under a pergola of grapevine. Pots of red geranium stand on the garden wall of brown andesite. The sea is pebbly and usually of a striking light-blue tone. At night, the lights of Lesbos flicker in the distance. The rooms are basic. They are clean and air-conditioned. Carlos a former school teacher, political activist and a man of immense personnel magnetism, is one of the principal reasons for the popularity of the place. Sadly he speaks little English.
