astamonu is the epitome of a conservative Anatolian city: its bazaar district, laced through with scores of minor mediaeval monuments, oozes with the look and feel of old times. The historic neighbourhoods below the Castle are full of stately old homes in various stages of decay. The Mosque of Mahmut Bey, a 14th century jewel, stands a few miles outside the town.
This pair of pretty houses, revived in 2003, represent the first - and so far only - serious attempt to bring tourism to Kastamonu. Mrs Kırbaş is an art historian and travel agency director from Istanbul who fell in love with the city, and proceeded to invest in it as an act of the heart. Externally the houses are a delight to look at; the interiors, too, offer a comfortable and cosy atmosphere. A team of local ladies works wonders in the kitchen; and their restaurant is one of the very few places in deeply conservative Kastamonu where you can have a glass of rakı with your dinner.

Kastamonu’dan doğanın koynunda 2 gün geçirdik.. Bu nefis doğa parçasını daha önce neden keşfetmedik diye hayıflandık. Toprakçılar Konakları Kastamonu’da konaklanabilecek en güzel konak otel. Biz 7 numaralı suit odada ailece kaldık.. Türk hamamı nasıl bir lüks anlatamam.. Nasıl bir keyif.. Hamam kültürü bizim geleneğimizde var.. Bu keyfi siz de yaşayın.. Ben Feridun Beye katılmıyorum eski ile yeninin buluşması bu kadar güzel sağlanabilirdi.. Otelde her türlü konfor mevcut.. Çalışanlar güler yüzlü, içten ve misafirperver.. Gidin Toprakçılar Konaklarına, çok memnun olacaksınız.. Bu arada Mutlu Tönbekici’nin 01.09.2008 tarihli güzel yazısı da bu konağı tercih etmemizde büyük etkisi olduğunu belirtmeliyim.
