T los Mountain Lodge is a small hotel that has featured regularly in our book over the years. It is the kind of warm and friendly guesthouse that you might encounter in a European village.

It is now run by two couples. Nese and Sönke, who have been organising outdoor tours in Marmaris for two decades, hope to attract more adventure-seeking nature lovers and hikers to the hotel. This shouldn't be too difficult, considering the beautiful environment. Built on the cliff nearby is the antique Lycian city of Tlos, mysterious and dark with its tombs carved out of the rock. The Roman hamam, which was overrun with vegetation, has been cleaned up. It commands a magnificent view. The Akdağ mountains offer endless opportunities for long hikes. A guide organises tours of the ruins as well as canoe outings on the Eşen river.

I bumped into Mountain Lodge more or less incidentally when I travelled my way along the overcrowded Turkish coast between Alanya and Izmir. I would have loved it just for the quietness, the peaceful mood, the beautifull landscape, the hiking possibilities and the sound of running water next to my room. But what was much more stunning and came very unexpected was the overwhelming friendlyness and hospitality of Mel, the host. I should have stayed a couple of days longer, but I’m sure I’ll return one day to do just that. Thanx, Mel!

I want to visit. Do you have vacancy?
