I n the beautiful Kabak cove, beyond Ölüdeniz, you could almost imagine yourself on a Far Eastern island. From Shambala’s clifftop position, the view over the turquoise sea is breathtaking. Why the name? Wikipedia describes Shambala as a mythological kingdom in the Tibetan buddhist tradition, symbolising peace and tranquility. Wooden bungalows were erected to get around a ban on construction in the area, which is of course a lot nicer. Shambala is the nicest of several similar facilities that have popped up here recently. We slept in a gazebo with just a roof to provide cover, but bungalows with bathrooms are also on offer. Many of the guests work in creative professions and come here to rediscover their inner hippy during the summer. Service is good, the meals very tasty. Evenings are often lively, with music or dance performances.
