T
he Latmos Mountains overlooking Bafa Lake provide the backdrop for what is undoubtedly one of the sexiest stories in Greek mythology. The union of the moon goddess Selene and the shepherd Endymion contains all the ingredients of a romantic movie: love, pain, grief, joy as well as… FIFTY children, all of them girls! (this is what happens when you are a goddess…) This is a family-run pension, clean, simple and unpretentious. Gülsüm Hanım is in command of the kitchen. Don’t look for sophisticated chic: you won’t find it. Trekkers favour this place. The area was once historically quite important and the owners organize excursions to some of the hidden remains, which range from cave paintings from pre-historical days to ruined monasteries. Bird-watching, boating on the lake, photography classes, rock climbing are some of the alternative activities on offer.
