or many years Ahmet Kizen has been working as an architect in and around Fethiye. Now he has retreated to the inland side of Yanıklar to realize his dream of creating an eco-hotel. On the banks of the river he offers different types of accommodation in stone, adobe and wooden houses. Décor is uniformly simple which is likely to suit guests who come here to learn how to weave kilims, throw a pot or make wooden spoons.
In keeping with the purist ethos of the project the swimming pool has a natural filtration system, while much of the food is cooked using an old-fashioned tandır oven to heat the water. On a huge plot of land there are many hideaway nooks and crannies where you may stumble upon a flock of sheep or a small lake with bench seats shaded by towering eucalyptus trees.
Mr Kizen is keen to attract active guests who will join in his various projects or, better still, share their own eco ideas with him. Expect no TVs or music systems here. But on the opposite side of the river an unmade-up road wends eight kilometres down to an inviting lunch spot with tables set up in and around the river. (PY)
