he Bay of Adrasan offers a stunning unspoilt beach surrounded by stunning mountains, but for us the real attraction of this still largely undiscovered backwater of the Turkish Riviera lies a little further inland. A microcosm of almost tropical luxuriance lines the lower course of Adrasan River, shaded by giant plane trees and encircled by flourishing citrus groves. A half dozen unpretentious restaurants and low-key hotels share the riverbed. They set their tables in the river, sometimes on islets made for the purpose. Ducks and geese, and even a wizened old pelican, share in the festivities.
Paradise Cafe, owned by Fiko and his English wife Jill, has been the clear leader of the pack for more than a decade. A few years back, the restaurant was added three charming bungalows in jungle-house style. Last year they acquired the next-door pension with its set of unobtrusive rooms looking directly on the river. The setting is modest and friendly. The riverbed comes to life at night with crowds of eaters and revellers. Days, by contrast, are quiet and remarkably slow. The beach is 250 metres down the way.

I have visited Paradise several times over recent years and last stayed in June 2008. The place lives up to its name and Jill and Fickret make everyone so welcome - its like going home each time you return. I have been in May June and September and am now going March/April to explore the Wild Flowers in the Tauros Mountains. (the hotel is on the Lycian Way and there are many walks to enjoy as well as the beach which is a ten minute walk away) The hotel rooms are wooden chalets with large balconies overlooking the river. It is always spotlessly clean and the menu is wonderful. I cant wait to sit at the tables in the river and relax in my favourite place on earth.
