S
elimiye is a lazy waterfront village. Nothing happens most of the time: the cicadas sing, a fisherman may occasionally rev the boat, or the old folks sitting in the café may shift a chair. In spring, the orange blossoms smell overwhelmingly. The harbour is nearly landlocked, enclosed by mighty mountains, and has an islet in its midst with a ruined fortress on it.
The town was practically inaccessible by car until 20 years ago. Now there are a few restaurants catering to the visiting yachts, and a few decent accommodations, of which Palmetto is easily the most comfortable. The host here is a charming medical professor with a career in the US. The staff go out of their way to pleas. There is a spotless pool and a nice grassy lawn where you can lie down for a tan. The sea is somewhat shallow but it is right at the doorstep. So never mind the architecture: "Boşver" - never mind - as a boat in the harbour proclaims, is the motto here.
