O
ne of the oldest among the townhouse-hotels in Istanbul's historic Sultanahmet district, Nomade boasts a loyal clientele that includes journalists, academics, and interesting people of all nationalities. The atmosphere of easygoing hospitality owes much to the twin sisters Esra and Hamra who own and run the hotel: They are French-educated, widely travelled and fluent in several languages. The Lonely Planet commends Nomade as "a good place for single women travellers."
The hotel underwent a thorough renovation in 2004, shedding last traces of its post-'60s youth in the process. The rooms are simple, bright and stylish; each one is furnished in a different colour scheme. There is an inviting roof terrace that commands a panorama of Istanbul's great monuments.
