L ocated in Daday, a rather nondescript district of Kastamonu, Iksir Resort Town comes a welcome surprise. Most local historical buildings have already vanished. Only 24 crumbling mansions still await restoration. The first to be rescued was Iksir Mansion, built in 1926. The story began when a maths teacher returned to her native town after a 24-year career elsewhere in the country. She bought the house and the land surrounding it, built annexes and produced Iskir Resort Town with her daughters’ help. This is not just a 60-room hotel: it is also a horse farm and produces its own fresh produce, served in a restaurant housed in an old barn. It includes a fitness and wellness centre with indoor swimming pool and spa. From time to time, they organize interesting events such as a “Mushroom Festival.” A place worth considering for a weekend away!
