T
ire is a destination often overlooked despite its rich history. Known as Tirapolis during the Roman period, it remained a busy trading centre in Ottoman times. Traditional crafts have also survived here: tinsmiths, feltmakers, spinners, quilt makers are still at work. The Gülcüoğlu family donated the mansion they lived in until the 1990s to the municipality. A hotel was born. The complex consists of three imposing buildings, surrounded by a large lawn area. The original details – the floor tiles, the main door, the wrought iron bars on the windows – have been well preserved, but the décor is rather uninspiring. On the other hand, the rooms are very clean and comfortable. They include conveniences such as TV and minibar, standard in 3-star hotels. Aside from breakfast, the hotel does not serve food.
