T
his is a place of spectacular gesture, an elegant holiday village perched all alone on the sheer rock of a wild gorge. For some years it was hidden from public view for having committed itself too closely to the English package-holiday trade. More recently it has half-opened its secured gates to the world at large, and the world begins to discover one of the better-kept secrets of the Turkish Riviera.
The surroundings are magnificent. The grounds are well-kept and permeated by the sweet smells of the Mediterranean maquis. The hospitality is smooth and professional; it abounds in well-turned personal touches - like the tiny reservation-only gourmet restaurant hidden somewhere (in addition to the regular mess hall). There's a good wine list, and the olive oil comes largely from the the premises. The distant view of the sea is out of this world. The rooms, by contrast, display a rather bland regularity.
The establishment owns a private beach of beautiful grey sand in the Bay of Kumlubük, a 5-minute drive down the gorge. There is yet another restaurant serving gourmet fare at the beach.
