O
nce upon a time, mansions lined up the shores of the Seyhan river in Adana. A few are still standing, resisting the ravage of time. Palm trees, walking paths and the old Taş Köprü (Stone Bridge) contribute to an enchanting Mediterranean atmosphere in the neighbourhood. This 110 year-old mansion was first owned by a Bosnian Turk called Salih Effendi who ran flour and cotton mills. He was also known as a local philanthropist. In the 1950s, his descendants sold their assets to Sabanci family, therefore contributing to one of Turkey’s main industrial empires. The mansion fell into disrepair. Parts of it were even used by tire repair shops until Halil Avci decided to open Adana’s first boutique hotel. Bringing the historical building back to life required extensive restoration.
