irgi is a historic jewel in the Aegean region, so far undiscovered. Beautiful Ottoman buildings are waiting for enterprising people to come and restore them. The village is silent and peaceful, the pension a single-storey village house with a veranda. Polished wooden floors give the rooms a nice rural atmosphere. You take off your shoes as you enter. Huge plane trees shade the garden. The guesthouse is run by genuine villagers: the owner is proud to count professors among his guests; his wife cooks wonderful börek with local herbs. A beautiful 19th century mansion, an architectural treasure, can be seen just down the road. From the village, a track leads to the Gölcuk plateau at an altitude of 1100 m. The lake provides a perfect natural setting for a summer picnic.
