A classy, intimate small hotel built of natural stone and massive timber in the historic upper village of Assos. The hilltop location affords some sweeping views over the sea and the island of Lesbos, though the house has a curiously inward-looking air about it. The ancient Acropolis is within (steep!) walking distance. A hair-raisingly steep drive down the cliff brings you in a few minutes to the harbour and its famous taverna lane squeezed on the edge of the sea.
The tavern lane looks of course attractive at first sight. But from a strictly culinary point of view, it would be folly to miss dining at the hotel. Mr Oğuzcan is a jolly host, a theatre man who spent much of his life in the UK, a builder and stage decorator and pâtissier; but above all he is a gastronomer who takes delight in his kitchen and likes to share his enthusiasm with his guests.
The name means "Pepper House". A pepper theme accordingly runs through the establishment, culminating with a magnificently hot pepper preserve that is on sale in the in-house shop.
