his is not a small hotel at all, but it is so special in spirit and personality that we do not hesitate to include with the best hotels of a human scale in Turkey. It has local character without stooping to any of the usual tourist tinsel. It offers all the amenities and comforts of a large cosmopolitan hotel, without the chill smugness of most such institutions. By the second day you learn the waiters by name; next, you begin bonding with the turtles in the lobby pool.
The neighborhood is an asset. It is a modest residential backwater with friendly local restaurants and chatty local grocers, and yet it is within strolling distance of both the Blue Mosque and busiest hubs of the city. The entertainment is often brilliant. The roof restaurant, commanding a glorious view of the harbour, offers superb cuisine in the Istanbul tradition.
