O
ver the past decade, Gökşin Ilıcalı has been buying up properties in this fairy tale corner of Turkey, and deploying his and architect Turgut Cansever’s magic on them. While restoring the houses, they found a spectacular 2,000 year-old underground city. The result of their work is outstanding: chic and simplicity. Ethnic touches light up the spacious rooms, but the result is not too folksy. The private pools in the suites are undoubtedly the most amazing features here. You can dive into the water straight from your bed. In the restaurant, the chef offers a modern interpretation of Anatolian dishes. Incidentally, the internationally famous musician Mercan Dede is the owner’s brother. In different fields, both successfully mix traditional local influences with western touches.
