M
odest family-run pension in the storybook village of Kale/Kekova. The sea is literally at your doorstep: you walk out of your room on to a narrow platform wide enough for about 10 sunbathers, and dip into the ever-brilliant waters of the Bay of Kekova. There is a rowboat you can borrow to explore the sunken ruins of ancient Simena. Or else you can lounge about the restaurant which doubles up as the sitting room of the friendly Takır family. There is fresh fish as usual; more uncommon are the delicious homemade ice-creams. The older rooms, made of concrete, are rather basic, but the newer units constructed of wood are quite airy and wide.
The village is topped with a mediaeval castle and is accessible only by the sea. Scores of very small islets, some bearing hermits cells and other mysterious structures, are scattered across the harbour. Surrounded by the mountains, hardly touched by the modern world, this is as enchanting a site as there can be.
