L ocated on a hillside behind the old Greek windmills, this hotel faces away from Alaçatı and built-up areas.

People don’t expect to come across a view of nature while staying in the centre of Alaçati. This extraordinary vista and its unusual architecture set the Değirmen hotel apart from others.

Accurately named, it is built like a windmill. The rooms are vast, decorated with pretty bedspreads and accessories. Some of them have a circular bed; two are on two levels. The top floor rooms boast a high ceiling.

What really appealed to us was the glass conservatory where a rich breakfast was served: delicious local cheeses, olives and a new type of börek daily. Owned by an Izmir lawyer and his wife, the hotel is run by a sweet and hospitable couple, Dilek and Fikret, who do a wonderful job.
